Different coatings

When we talk about coating at SERTO, it can be two completely different things. On the one hand there is the coating of threads (CP and CT), on the other hand there is the coating of brass parts (CV), or more precisely, chemical nickel plating.

Coating CP and CT

In discussions with customers, the question always arises as to how male adaptor threads can be properly sealed. The combination of a cylindrical threaded hole and a conical male thread would leak without additional sealant, because the thread only overlaps a small area. SERTO supplies its products with a pre-applied layer of Loctite® or PTFE tape on the thread.

Option CP – male adaptor threads with PTFE tape

The wrapping of male adaptor threads with PTFE tape is especially suitable

  • for high temperatures
  • for aggressive media
  • for steam
  • for pure oxygene

All unions made of brass M/CV/G can be ordered with the option CP.

Option CT – male adaptor threads with Loctite® 5061

The sealing compound is applied by machine. This assures that the sealing compound is applied evenly and directly at potential leakage points at the base and the flank of the thread. Loctite® offers the following advantages:

  • environmentally friendly
  • non-toxic, solvent-free
  • very good media resistance
  • air, oil, water (hot, cold)

All unions made of brass M/CV/G, stainless steel, steel and PA can be ordered with the option CT.

Option CV – chemical nickel-plating of brass

Nickel plating of brass parts means that the parts are evenly coated with a nickel layer. By contrast to the electrolytic nickel plating process, chemical nickel plating can be done completely planeparallel. Irrespective of the surface shape of the workpiece, a uniform plating thickness is always achieved over the entire surface. By that, the constructional dimensions will be changed only by the thickness of the plating layer. The chemical nickel plating strongly bonds with the brass material structure and achieves a highly durable improvement.

The brass CV fittings have the following advantages compared to standard brass fittings:

    • higher surface hardness
    • improved resistance against corrosion, abrasion and wear

    Typical areas of application are:

    • slightly aggressive or corrosive environment
    • light acids, oil-air mixtures
    • apparatus manufacture for laboratory with deionised water
    • food industry
    • etc.

Virtually all unions of the brass ranges M and G are available with the option CV.
